Through my own experience of transferring a domain name from Vistaprint to Godaddy, I noticed that there is a whole lot of unanswered questions on how to do this. So let’s see if we can help with this.
- Make sure you can login to your Vistaprint account, then look at your profile to make sure that your email address is right.
- Now call Vistaprint at 1.866.891.7213, and have your account number ready. Tell them that you want to transfer your domain, and they should direct you back to their site where you will have to pay a $19.95 charge for transferring the domain name.
- After you make the purchase, you will receive an important email from Vistaprint, and it will be entitled “Domain Transfer”. This email will have all the login info you will need to transfer your domain.
- 2 things you need to do once you login to http://manage.opensrs.net – (a)Click on the “Domain Locking” tab on the menu bar, and make sure the site is unlocked. (b)Now click on the “Admin” tab on the menu bar, and change the existing email address to your email address, and click on the “Save Configuration” button at the bottom, this is very important to do.
- Now you should be ready to go to Godaddy and sign in. If you don’t already have an account, then Click Here.
Once your logged into Godaddy, hold your mouse over the “Domains” button, and a submenu will pop open. Click on the “Transfer Domain” button, and simply fill in the website name. Follow through the instructions to make this purchase, and wait on the email from Godaddy that says “Transfer Acknowledgement of…yoursite”- The 1st thing you want to look for in this email is at the top where it says “We’ve sent an approval request to ….”. It should have your email listed here that you changed on the admin page as I described on Step 4 of these instructions. If it doesn’t have your email listed, then you will have to redo what I explained in Step 4, and make sure you save it on that page.
- Now you can go back into Godaddy, and click on “My Account”. Click on the “Transfer” button on this page, and click on your website. This will take you to a page with instructions for you to follow.
- Now look for the email that says “Transfer of ….yoursite” at the email address you put on the admin page on step 4. This email is going to have the Transaction ID and Security Code that you will need on Godaddy for the next step.
- After you put in the Transaction ID and the Security Code, Godaddy will ask you for the authorization code. This can be found back on the site you were on in step 4, click on the link titled “Domain Extras”, and you will see the authorization code there. After you enter the code in and submit, you’ll basically have to wait for all of the approvals to go through. Maybe 5-7 days.
